Construction sites can be extremely dangerous, which is why employees are
required to wear hard hats when entering in the area. While most construction
companies go to great lengths to ensure their employees are safe while
on the construction site, accidents are not uncommon. In fact, according
to OSHA over 20.5% of all workplace fatalities involved construction workers.
Below is a list of the four most common construction accidents according
to OSHA statistics.
-
Falls: Construction workers are often working very high building skyscrapers and
other buildings. Falls from these heights whether from scaffolding, ladders
or through windows and roofs account for at least 39 percent of all construction
related workplace fatalities.
-
Electrocutions: Due to the nature of construction sites being unfinished areas, construction
workers are often working in environments with exposed wires, power lines
and other incomplete electrical systems. If a construction worker accidentally
is exposed to any of these, it could result in serious electrocution injury
or death. These account for 8.2 percent of all construction fatalities.
-
Struck by objects: When construction workers are working on a job site with multiple levels,
falling debris such as tools, wooden beams or other materials are common.
These items can strike the worker causing severe to traumatic brain injuries
or death. Falling objects account for 8 percent of all construction worker deaths.
-
Caught-in/between: Construction job-sites use heavy machinery to build the structures. Often
workers can find themselves caught between immovable objects or against
heavy machinery. In fact, 4.3 perfect of all construction worker fatalities
are caused by machinery or heavy objects the worker is caught in or between.
As a construction worker, suffering an injury on the job not only jeopardizes
your health, but it can also risk your livelihood. Often construction
workers are injured and unable to return to their profession, which can
make paying for expensive medical bills and treatments even more stressful.
If you were injured while working in an accident that could have been
prevented, you deserve compensation for your injuries.
