How Leading Lawyers Think

Partner Bob MacDonnell was quoted in the new book by Randall Kiser, How Leading Lawyers Think: Expert Insights Into Judgment and Advocacy (2011 Springer). Bob was interviewed by the author along with 78 other "exceptional attorneys" who were selected for their demonstrated skill in predicting trial outcomes and knowing when cases should be settled or taken to trial. The book shows how skilled attorneys mentally frame cases, understand jurors' perspectives, develop themes and arguments and achieve exceptional results for clients.

Lurie, Ilchert, MacDonnell & Ryan

"All attorneys are expected to know the law, the rules of the Court and the proper procedures to follow in litigating a case. The importance of the book, How Leading Lawyers Think: Expert Insights Into Judgment and Advocacy, is that it deals with the array of skills necessary to go beyond the simple handling of a case. In other words, to successfully handle a case. This involves the ability to know when to settle a case and when to go to trial, the key factors in properly evaluating a case and the strategy of negotiation. The book concludes that truly skilled attorneys know how to properly frame the issues of a case, both liability and damages, understand a juror's perspective and develop persuasive themes to achieve results for their clients. It was an honor to be selected in this study and to have contributed to its substance."
